In early March 2020, before the world became gripped by a global pandemic, LCB travelled to Orange, a city only a few hours drive from Sydney. We were warmly welcomed by the City of Orange Brass Band and their Conductor, Mr Phil Rees.
Our first performance on the Saturday was at Orange Regional Conservatorium at a concert titled ‘Rhapsody in Orange‘. Three bands performed at this concert:- our band started off the evening, followed by the City of Orange Brass Band, and then the Orange Regional Conservatorium Symphonic Wind Ensemble. Lastly, despite a struggle to get everyone on the stage, the three groups played two pieces in a massed performance. It was an extremely enjoyable event to be a part of, with the audience and players alike leaving the auditorium abuzz!
The following day we joined the City of Orange Brass Band at one of their regular performances in the beautiful Cook Park (Summer Street Orange). Again, both bands performed a stint separately, followed by a couple of pieces played jointly. What a wonderful weekend it was, with promises all round to repeat it again soon.
