Introducing Leichhardt Celebrity Brass

The suburb of Leichhardt – better known as Sydney’s ‘Little Italy’, is located seven kilometres west of Sydney, with 17 kilometres of frontage to Sydney Harbour and the Parramatta River.

This is the home of Leichhardt Celebrity Brass.

Leichhardt Council formed the band in 1988 as a Bi-Centenary cultural initiative. The area embraces the suburbs of Annandale, Balmain, Lilyfield, Rozelle and Leichhardt in the inner-west of Sydney, NSW. In May 2016 Leichhardt Council was merged with Ashfield and Marrickville to become Inner West Council.

We are a ‘non contesting’ band, our members being drawn from various other bands in the Sydney area and beyond. We rehearse in Leichhardt Town Hall on Wednesday evenings at 7:30 pm.

The band is very active within the local and extended community. It performs regularly at the Council’s Citizenship ceremonies, and other Council sponsored functions. We perform at Christmas Carol functions, fetes, markets, and so on.

We are proudly supported by Inner West Council.

Our Objective

Our objective is to provide and promote good Brass Band music for the benefit of its members and also to share these benefits with the community.

Our Music

The band comprises 30 brass and percussion instrumentalists and is fully acoustic, presenting traditional band music and contemporary favourites from the 1920’s to the present. The band has an extensive repertoire which includes:

  • Traditional Australian music (Waltzing Matilda, The Man From Snowy River, I Am Australian, I Still Call Australia Home)
  • Classical favourites (Finlandia, Nessun Dorma, The Can Can)
  • Swing and popular music (from Glen Miller to the Beatles and Andrew Lloyd Webber)
  • Popular film and TV music (for example from The Gael, Mary Poppins, The Sound of Music, James Bond, Game of Thrones, Lilo and Stitch)

Our repertoire constantly changes, with new and exciting music being introduced almost weekly.

All members of the band (and some family members) give their time voluntarily for performances and rehearsals, and enjoy the privilege of providing quality, entertaining music for their audiences – and what’s even better, we all have loads of fun!
